30 Day Song Challenge, Day Nine
April 21st, 2011 by Murray Barnes | Posted in 30 Day Song Challenge, Music, PersonalContinuing then, Day 09: A song that you can dance to.
I wasn’t quite sure what the emphasis of this one was, whether it’s a song that I love so much that I’m willing to dance to it, despite being fairly uptight about dancing otherwise, or whether it’s a song such as Steps’ 5,6,7,8 to which I know all the moves (I don’t by the way, but I do know all the words to the chorus.
If it was the first, I’d have probably chosen Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody, since presumably headbanging counts as dancing, and no matter how often I hear this song, I do need to pull a Wayne’s World on it, every single time. One of the main reasons I’ve not had my hair cut in nearly 10 years. If it was the second, I’d have probably ended up choosing some Scottish Country Dance Music, since I do a mean Canadian Barn Dance, if I do say so myself.
But thinking of ceilidhs reminded me of going to see Turisas perform in Edinburgh. They were excellent, there was moshing, my brother popped some guy’s shoulder back in. All fairly typical for a metal gig, but then they played In the Court of Jarisleif and what I can only describe as a “ceilidh pit” broke out. It was fantastic. I’ve actually been banned in normal ceilidhs from partnering up with my old flatmate Andy because of potential damage to equipment and people. We’d have been called lightweights in comparison with what happened at that gig. So, here’s a song that Andy and I could dance to.

Pfffft, those pits had nothing on Cannibal Corpse at the ABC last year.

I can vouch for your enthusiastic dancing. I recall nearly having my arm ripped off at the ceilidh we had during our mission trip over there.
