30 Day Song Challenge, Day Fourteen

There really are so many reasons I should not love this song. It’s a song about football, from the 2010 World Cup, and we all know how much I love football. It’s also very poppy, and we all know how much I love pop music. Worst of all, the first time I heard it was when I was at the dentist, about to get 3 or 4 fillings. I should’ve been put right off.
I wasn’t though. I love this song. It’s so happy and cheery and infectious. It gets stuck in my head like all the best earworms and almost makes me want to dance. I’m glad I loved it though, because I ended up buying Troubadour, the album it’s from, and discovered that K’naan isn’t just a poppy, happy, cheery football fan, but an excellent rapper who writes songs that mean something. Two examples would be People Like Me and Fatima, which can be found as part of his Tiny Desk Concert. Beautiful songs, truly.
